Welcome to the Texas Tool Crib. When I was coming of age, I had the great fortune to learn a variety of different things from members of my family. I had family members that were electricians, carpenters, welders, millwrights, plumbers, mechanics, and farmers, just to name a few. I started this channel to talk about tools and how to use them. Along the way I will show you tricks and trades I have learned in my life. We’ll throw in some DIY tasks along the way as well. My hope is to help teach others some of the many things I have learned in my life. Hopefully, you will walk away more knowledgeable than you came. Let’s go to work.

Urban Carry Knife : What would your ideal urban carry knife include?
The package opening tool from Victorinox works exceptionally well. I would love to see it incorporated into other knives in the future. This is what my ideal urban carry tool would include.

Leatherman Quality Control Issues
Переглядів 7 тис.2 місяці тому
I recently purchased a couple of new Leatherman Surges. To my dismay they were seriously lacking in quality. I’m curious if others have found similar experiences lately with recent purchases from Leatherman. If you have, I would love to hear about them.
Victorinox Companion (New York Style)
Переглядів 11 тис.2 місяці тому
Victorinox generally innovates tools into their lineup very slowly, but when they do they are often done very well. The Companion is no exception. With the highlight of the Companion focused around the latest implement, the package opening tool, it brings a modern flair to the pocket knife.

The 40th Anniversary Edition from Leatherman is a major revamp of the FREE P4 platform. Notable changes include a much improved knife blade, the addition of a diamond file, and a bit exchanger which greatly improves on the capabilities of the original FREE P4. These major changes, combined with some minor refinements, takes this platform to a new level. It is my hope that Leatherman will incorp...

Leatherman Should Have This Feature In All Of Their Multi Tools!
Переглядів 7 тис.11 місяців тому
Now more than just a one off custom, the adjustable plier head from Leatherman should be incorporated across all of their platforms in my opinion. This joint allows the end user to adjust the preferred plier tension, thereby offering a much better user experience.
My Thoughts On The Leatherman Arc
Переглядів 28 тис.11 місяців тому
This new multi tool has been speculated about for months. It now appears that it will become reality in the not so distant future. In this video we will be discussing the tool set it is rumored to include. If this comes to fruition, it may very well be the best combination of tools Leatherman has ever assembled in a multi tool.

Leatherman Competitors Are Closing In!
Переглядів 28 тис.Рік тому
I have become increasingly disappointed in Leatherman over the last couple of years. The latest Leatherman Garage release only adds to that disappointment. There are more and more companies nipping on the heels of Leatherman. I personally believe if they do not change the direction the company is heading in, they will soon find themselves on the outside looking in. Exceed Designs TIRANT Razor V...

5 Fixed Loop Knots That Are Easy To Untie
I hate when I prematurely evaporate.
that was great, exactly the trick i was looking for! cheers!
Very very great metode 👍
I have this Wera bit ratchet in a Kraftform set with nine bits in a plastic case, and it's a fantastic pocket carry, you hardly notice it's there until you want to use it.
Roxon has better scissors.
The problem with most knot videos is they show how to tie the knots, but they don't demonstrate the scenarios of when to use which knot.
I got a zippo for my birty day today and its so cool thanks for the tutorial
I'm a helpdesk manager for a large corporation. Like the standard techs below me, I roll up my sleeves and will get down and dirty when I can. My EDC? Leatherman Surge all day every day, I used to carry A Gerber Multitool. The Surge Has more useful tools and is more robust in design fit and finish. The Surge gives me confidence that everything I may need. Without having to go back to my desk, open my backpack and pull out my Dewalt belt carry tools pouch with a ton Of hand tools, tape measure, and a place to put the Surge as well. If you can stomach carrying a heavy and BIG Multitool, Surge Is for you.
Ronsonol stinks
there will always be lemons, but Leatherman has always been the gold standard.
Well said!
Thanks, it seems to even dress better.
Thank you!
I use put wallet in the back pocket but after being a delivery driver it started messing with my back. I've been putting it in my front pocket now, back feels better
Brother Ben, what sold me on this is the quick access beer opener.
I cannot believe none of these excavation companies on youtube properly dig down and then backfill in 6"-12" compacted lifts for these dirt foundations. Unfuqing believable.
I am sure your viewers are smart enough to know this, but it goes without saying...Empty the gas can completely first!
3:11 trying going clockwise with it in your right hand. works better imo
This seems to be an EDC collectors toy.
👍
I prefer the kalmyk loop, looks similar, easier.
It's not a key ring it's to put a lanyard on it
I used to be knottarded and now in my twilight years I've gotten about a half dozen pretty much remembered from memory and can tie them with my eyes closed. Bowline, cowboy bowline, eskimo bowline, marline spike hitch, clove hitch, constrictor knot, alpine butterfly scaffold knot, taut line hitch , truckers hitch, ashley stopper knot. This seems like a cool knot, but it doesn't seem like its going to add much to my repertoire. Any suggestions for me?
I used to have a rebar. One of the best multitools I've ever had. But there were somethings I never liked about it. I did not like having to open the tool to get at the inner tools. And when using the pliers how my palms were sticked by the tools. When I ended up breaking the knife blade (By using it in ways everyone says to never use a knife lol) I trashed it.The rebar was a good tool. And is perfect for some people. But for me I found the few downsides not to my liking. I did love that it was so strong and capable for the price point. I certainly abused that tool and it never flinched. Aside from the knife blade when I used it as a pry bar lmao. Luckily I still have both eyes, cause my safety squints worked lol.
Did you make that red angle square?
I have had several multi tools over the years from Gerber sog and Leatherman including the wave and charge tti recently I got the Rebar and it is my favorite ever.. perfect size and Pocket clip is not necessary as it fits perfectly in the small 5th pocket in my jeans
Just bought my first cheap zippo type lighter. Love it already. Gonna buy a legit zippo on payday.
Would love to see a Spirit x plus v an arc
I really think that curve in the Victorinox scissor blades is exactly what gives them the advantage, and it makes a lot of sense why if you think about it. It really maximizes the direct cutting force against the material being cut despite the tiny blades. The only reason why the Surge scissors can compete is because they’re so much larger, which is why you don’t see that curve on full sized scissors, they don’t need it. Perhaps Victorinox has patented the curve, but if at all possible, Leatherman should really get on board with it. Victorinox does also have more precise manufacturing standards and uses better materials, though, so maybe that has something to do with it.
Amazing love to watch 👏👏👏👏
I use the awl for plastic packaging. The opener on the p4 is good not boxes or tape. Even envelopes the awl work good for blister packages
Decent video. I wish you would have shown every function in use. And I don’t understand why the key hole doesn’t have a function other than holding the ring. It should be a hex too.
compact for edc
Well, it seems I’m buying the Victorinox Spirit cause it has a perfect quality control. I’m not risking hundreds of dollars for this crab. Thanks everyone for their commentaries.
As an accountant I carry a modded Free P4, I love it and I am a tinkerer even though I work a more "white collar" job. Love the channel!!
Superb explanations. Thanks for this
I just paid $10 for a multi tool, from OT- very good
This is obviously not a 4:1 mechanical advantage the way he has it set up. The evidence its not 4:1 is the first loop of rope never moves as seen by the yellow rope pattern not moving at all. If it was a 4:1 then you would see the yellow marks on all 4 strands of rope moving. He made a 2:1 mechanical advantage
Things I never knew existed but would love to have.
Hard to come up with the perfect mix of tools/form/function etc, but I do know that I'd LOVE there to be more models with the new package opener, and also with the nail file/cleaner (also works as small phillips). And call me crazy, but I'd love more models to NOT have a 'main' blade (something like the Electrician's little blade will suffice).
No to 154cm blade. If you are upgrading the blade, then really upgrade it. S30v or better (magnacut etc)..please.
useful
This does not work on a 2012. Get your facts straight.
I'm an ex EMT, long before the "raptor" was invented, and I'm an RN now, almost retired. We used to use a spring loaded centre punch to break windows, and we made a duct tape "handle" on the window glass to pull it outward. That might sound like it's long and laborious as a task, but with TRAINING, it's not, and you can do it in seconds. IMO the spring loaded center punch is best. Someone needs to make a pair of scissors and combine it with a spring loaded center punch. And there are still occasional tanks without the handle thingies so you need the Oxygen Wrench. The ring cutter needs a curve to it, like a regular ring cutter tool does. And if needs to be"deeper" and beefed up a bit for some of harder metals that some rings are made of today. Put all of that in a tool today, and you've got something. And it needs to be affordable on an EMT/RN/Paramedic budget. Just my take. Meanwhile, I've got the Chinese knockoff of the old style raptor in the center console of both of my cars, along with a small roll of duct tape, and a pair of outdoor work gloves. I've never cursed a tool that was a cheaper version and yet got me out of a "situation" on the road, so there's that in the glovebox, and a cheap set of Harbor Freight tools in the trunk. There's also a basic first aid kit. EVERY car needs these things. Otherwise, you and anyone else that you might need to rescue are SOL, because if you think that you are Okie Dokie with just a bumper jack and a spare tire or inflation kit, you are just kidding yourself. Be Prepared. And SUPER FINALLY: A POCKET TOOL should be able to fit IN YOUR POCKET, and while lottle hands can fit into LARGE handles, BIG HANDS (OR ANY HANDS WEARING GLOVES!) can't fit into Small handles! I wear size 8 1/2 SURGICAL gloves, and im not the only one! And I'm left handed!
What about scissors?
I got a surge a few years ago and within a week the detent on the plier handles was gone. Instead of snapping into place when opened it just slides open and closed with just a little constant friction. There is also play in the plier head that allows the wire cutters to not always contact each other. The scissors have quite a bit of play. And the plier head rubs a lot on the handles. My awl and bit exchanger do have some play. It has been working fine for years but those issues are present.
Regarding the stiffness of the pivot on the pliers, I share in the frustration. I've re-purchased the same models over the years, namely the Surge and Wave, and never had issues with them being so stiff when put under pressure. This has only happened with my recent purchases of both of these tools. It's pretty annoying having to twist the handles literally almost every time I put pressure on the plier head just to get them to open again.
thanks hoss
Is that Grey part in the middle plastic? I expected better from leatherman
Thank you sir !
